Glamping in Dorset

The sun’s out and it looks like it’s here to stay! With a predicted three solid months of sunshine ahead of us, there’s no better reason to holiday at home. Why not discover a new area of Dorset? Just to make things a little different, how about glamping, glamorous camping for those in the know. Enjoy the outdoors, with a few added indoor comforts, with these fabulous themed miniature retreats. Hope Gypsy Wagon… near Axminster, Lyme Regis, Seaton, Bridport and West Bay.


A romantic Gypsy caravan  ‘Hope’ is an original 1927 bow top wagon who once upon a time was used by families to travel the countryside. Hope is situated in a small meadow at a Retreat Centre. A lot of love and attention has gone into restoring and refurbishing this classic wagon by local artists. You’ll find hand printed fabric and artwork. Romantically lit by candle light and the use of a wind-up grammerphone will provide the soundtrack to a relaxing getaway. 


There is a double bed that comfortably sleeps two adults and pull out bed that will accommodate a child. Prepare your meals outside on the campfire, there’s use of a storm kettle to rustle up a brew, to be enjoyed outside in the comfort of an armchair in the middle of a field!


The land and fields are part of a private retreat site.

You can book a yoga (£30), massage (£45) or meditation (£30) session, a foraging walk (£30), surfing (£35) and spoon carving lessons (£30).

If a wagon doesn’t take your fancy how about a beach hut? In the unexpected location of the New Forest! Which is a short distance from Barton on Sea, Christchurch and Bournemouth.


This lovely bespoke getaway was lovingly hand crafted with a thoughtful design which gives it the feeling of a complete house condensed into the perfect hideaway. Warm in winter and airy in summer thanks to the natural insulation. The are glorious details such as the curved front door!


It has everything that you could need, sink, fridge, hob, shower room and camping style loo. There is even hot water courtesy of a gas boiler.

The site is a pick your own fruit farm. Where you can also buy  organic eggs lots of fresh seasonal produce such as strawberries, raspberries, beans, squash, potatoes and pumpkins. The cabin is located at the edge of the woodlands which surround Sopley Lake.

There is also a glorious wild flower meadow which attracts butterflies, other woodland residents are Fallow deer and Barn Owls. It’s a true escape back to nature.

If you are looking for slightly more conventional self catering accommodation in Dorset. We have have a lovely cottage that sits in the ground of Athelhampton. River Cottage also has it’s own private golf course and is situated a short distance from the County town of Dorchester.
