| The
Annual flower festival Athelhampton has been firmly on our events
list for over ten years.
For four days during May or June the whole house
is decked out with displays of both fresh and dried flowers.
Financed by Athelhampton, but staged by the ladies and gentlemen
from the Owermoigne Flower Club and Friends. The festival attracts
many visitors including numerous floral societies from around the
country.
Beryl & Geraldine, the two main organisers
from the club run a tight ship to ensure that nothing is left to
chance.
The flowers must be selected and ordered to
arrive on time, the advertising must be designed and placed, the
arrangers must be briefed and given strict staging times. With all
that they have to ensure that the security and other business at
Athelhampton is never compromised. They have a huge undertaking
but every year mange to pull it off.
Each year has a different theme, over the last
few years we have seen themes such as 'The Silver Screen', 'Down
Dorset Way', 'Celebrations' and 'It's a beautiful world' Every
year it seems to be bigger better and brighter.
Each year the displays are dismantled and sold
off, the proceeds are then given to Charity on the last day late
afternoon.
