| The
Gallery is at the top of the West Wing and displays works of art by
the artist Maria Marevna Vorobyev, known simply as 'Marevna'
Marevna was born in Russia in 1892 and moved to
Paris in 1912. Marevna settled in a studio and entered la Ruche, the
community of emigre painters and sculptors.
Marevna wrote a book, life with the painters
of la Ruche where she tells the story of her life in la Ruche
with artists Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani, Matisse and Rivera. It
was Marevna's daughter Marika, who in 1949 moved
to Athelhampton House with her husband Rodney Phillips.

Marevna lived at Athelhampton, and painted
many local scenes and the famous Pyramid trees in the Great Court.
