You’ve heard of the Hollywood tours well now Dorset has one of it’s very own, just a bit more British and a lot more understated. Explore the stunning scenery that makes up Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. Walkers are now able to visit locations filmed around West Bay, that they have seen as the backdrop to Broadchurch starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman. You will be able to collect the trail from all West Dorset Tourist information centres.
The pretty blue beach huts used throughout Series Two are on Charmouth beach, just west of West Bay
The idillic East Pier was used in many scenes. In particular the hut and bench during series one.
Take a walk up West Cliff and then head towards the Jurassic Pier. You can even visit a range of buildings used as the Broadchurch Police station, cafe and newsagents.
You will discover an old Methodist Church which was used as Sea Bridge Hall in the first series. The striking Exterior of the Folly found on West Quay was used as the exterior for the Police station.
You will be very familiar with the scene of the cliffs at Harbour Cliff Beach, they were in opening scenes of the the very first episode where a body is discovered at the foot of the cliffs on the beach.
Did you know that Athelhampton is also a filming location in Dorset? It most recently was the back drop for From Time To Time, starring Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall and Alex Etel was filmed here in 2008. Directed by Julian Fellowes, who has also directed the hugely popular TV series Downton Abbey, which stars many of the cast members in From Time To Time.
A blue screen was used during filming as there was an additional wing added to the house during production. I wonder if Athelhampton will be the backdrop to another film or television production? We hope so!
