Dorset named one of the world’s best places to visit

Dorset has made the shortlist for the year’s ‘hottest’ destinations according to the Guardian newspaper, and as a result has been named as one of the forty best holiday destinations to visit in the world.

It is just one of four places in the United Kingdom identified on the list, with Bristol, Salisbury and Margate also making the cut. The shortlisting has also placed Dorset on par with places as far-flung as Cuba, the Azores, Patagonia, Sri Lanka, Brisbane and Memphis, truly cementing its world-class status as a holiday destination.

The Guardian in particular praised its famous locations, such as West Bay, home to the hit ITV show Broadchurch, as well as Higher Bockhampton, the historic home of the renowned author Thomas Hardy, which will gain much media attention in May, when a film version of Far From the Madding Crowd will be released worldwide.

Athelhampton House and Gardens is also one of the venues in Dorset that you must visit during a stay in the county. A thrilling day out for all ages, visitors can take in the charm of our Tudor country manor house, explore our wondrous topiary gardens and enjoy something to eat at one of our onsite restaurants, incorporating the best of fresh, local produce.
