The much-anticipated second series of Broadchurch began on ITV last night, once again getting the entire nation talking with many more dark twists and turns set against a backdrop of stunning Dorset scenery.
Set in West Bay, close to the nearby town of Bridport, which is just a short drive from Athelhampton House and Gardens, the drama introduced new cast members Charlotte Rampling and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, as well as raising many more questions which viewers are dying to know the answer to. Last night’s episode worked as a catalyst for the entire series to follow, with much of the unfolding drama taking place on the beach, and a little more light shed on the back story of David Tennant’s character, Alec Hardy.
The first episode debuted to an incredible 7.6million viewers last night, with many more planning to catch up during the week, exposing the beauty of Dorset to a sizeable audience. Broadchurch was also huge across the internet, creating over 35,000 tweets and the top trend in the United Kingdom.
Following the first series, the area has had much attention, with many more visitors flocking to West Bay to witness Harbour Cliff Beach, the scene of Danny Latimer’s murder, home to the now famous cliff backdrop associated with the show. As well as shooting in West Bay, scenes were also shot in Bridport and Weymouth.
